György Konrád (1933, HU) is a Hungarian novelist and essayist. He is author of famous novels such as A Feast in the Garden (1992) and A Guest in My Own Country: A Hungarian Life (2007) in which he describes his personal experiences during the Second World War and the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. Konrád is a famous advocate of individual freedom and has written numerous essays on Europe and European culture. He has received many prestigious prizes and awards, including the Herder Prize (1984), and the Goethe Medal (2000), and is former president of the literary PEN foundation.
