Jurriaan Benschop is author of the book “Zout in de Wond” (Salt in the Wound). For this book he profiled several European artists, starting a journey through the European continent in search of answers to the questions Paul Gauguin posed in 1879: “Where do we come from? Who are we? And where do we go?”

On the occasion of the release of Jurriaan Benschop’s book “Zout in de Wond” (Salt in the Wound) and in collaboration with Leeuwarden 2018 , European Capital of Culture, European artists like Claudy Jongstra, Flo Kasearu, and Norbert Bisky reflect upon their heritage and the influence of environment on their work, in conversation with Jurriaan Benschop.

In 2018, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam, the city of Leeuwarden-Fryslân has the honour of hosting the European Capital of Culture on behalf of the Netherlands. Through its cultural programme, Leeuwarden-Fryslân2018 explores and celebrates the links between nature and culture.

This programme will be in English.
