Jimmie Durham is an American-born visual artist, sculptor, essayist, and poet. After being actively involved in the American Indian movement, he moved permanently to Europe in 1994. In his work Durham focuses on the relationship between architecture, monumentality, and national narratives. Durham has strongly influenced generations of artist and curators. His work has been exhibited in Europe in among others Hamburg and Munich Kunstverein, FRAC in Reims, Haus Wittgenstein in Vienna, and the Venice Biennale.
