Johan Simons (1946, The Netherlands) is a Dutch theatre and opera director who has dedicated his whole life to bringing the arts to a wide audience. He established the successful theatre company Hollandia and has been the director of famous international theatre companies such as NTGent and München Kamerspielle (Germany). In 2014 he won the prestigious Dutch Prins Bernard Cultuur Prijs for his whole oeuvre. At the moment he is the artistic director of the Ruhrtriennale, an annual music and arts festival in the Ruhr, Germany. In 2017 he will start as artistic director of Theater Rotterdam.
