Mark Lilla

Mark Lilla (United States, 1956) is an American political scientist and journalist. As a self-described liberal he is best known for his book The Once and Future Liberal: After Identity Politics (2017), where he argues for American Liberal to emphasize commonalities as citizens in their politics, rather than differences of identity. American Liberalism as he states, has slipped into a kind of moral panic about racial, gender, and sexual identity that has distorted liberalism’s message and prevented if from becoming a unifying force capable of governing. Besides his writing, he is also a professor of humanities at Columbia University and frequently contributes to The New York Times.
