Srećko Horvat (Croatia, 1983) is a Croation philosopher, author and political activist. In 2015, Horvat, together with former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, launched the Pan-European political movement called Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25). The aim of this movement is to reform the European Union’s current institutions and create a sovereign Parliament that respects national self-determination, which will help to solve the current political, economic and social crisis that Europe is facing. A Pan-European movement is necessary before 2025, which symbolises the year of the point of no return. Besides this, his writing has appeared in The Guardian, Al Jazeera, El Pais and The New York Times, and the German newspaper Der Freitag has named him as one of the most exciting voices of his generation.
